About this part

The Landing Gear Works is the only FAA PMA holder in the world for titanium main landing gear on the Cessna 180 and 185. This heavy-duty set is a left leg (XP0741001-77) and a right leg (XP0741001-88).

Steel gear legs slowly lose their spring and can rust. Titanium does neither. It is rated beyond 100 million flex cycles, against about 100,000 for the steel in Cessna gear. It is up to 50% stronger, flexes further, carries more weight and returns to its original shape.

Each leg is a constant 0.875 inch thick. That's thicker than steel because titanium bends differently, and it's what gives the leg the same feel as the steel one it replaces. The legs are wheels-forward and work with the P. Ponk beef-up kit.

The legs arrive as bare, brushed titanium. They don't need paint, but they can be painted, polished or powder coated with no restrictions.

What's included

  • Left and right titanium gear legs
  • BK 20 titanium axle attach bolt kit (required)
  • FAA STC SA01087SE paperwork
  • Gear-box modification template
  • Installation instructions

Good to know

  • The gear box needs a small modification: its outer corners and width are opened up by as much as 1/8 inch, using the supplied template.
  • If the aircraft has Cessna aluminum outboard brackets, or a P. Ponk kit, plan on new outboard brackets (XP0713495-611T / -622T titanium, or -611 / -622 steel).
  • Use titanium brake line clip XP0741001-202 (.890"), two per leg.
